Sushi on Jones

John has been dying for a true sushi meal since March. While we have some great takeout spots that have sort of scratched the itch (Kazu Nori and Soho Sushi are out go-tos), they tend to be rolls rather than the omakase experience we used to enjoy so easily.

We actually spent the first few months of the year pre-pandemic exclusively dining at Japanese restaurants when we had dinner out. But that’s a story for another time.

The Details

For now, Sushi on Jones is one of the few (maybe the only) spot doing sit down omakase al fresco.

Their West Village location has one single table outside and they do hourly dinner seatings each day. Reservations can be made through Resy, but here’s the catch, you only have 45 minutes to enjoy your meal.

They offer a 7 or 12 course experience, priced at $35 and $58 respectively. My only qualm is that they brought out the 12 pieces in batches of 6, rather than piece by piece. I’m sure it’s something to do with the speed of the situation and not sitting at the counter. Not a deal-breaker by any means.
