It’s app season

If you’re like me, you’re finally hosting again and you’re excited about it. And if you’re hosting again, that means you’re probably thinking through apps and drinks to offer people who are coming by.

Something we’ve been doing is gathering at our apartment before heading out for dinner or evening plans. John handles the drinks and makes some fun cocktails, and I own the apps so people can have some food in their stomachs. Here’ are my faves right now.

Tzatziki DIp

  • Make this when it’s too hot to eat and you don’t have a ton of time. It comes together fast, but has to sit for an hour.

  • Requires a minimal amount of ingredients to come together.

  • Serve with carrots and warm pita triangles. Grate and drain the cucumber instead of dicing.

Hummus

  • Another quick one that comes together with mostly non-perishable ingredients.

  • Keep canned chickpeas and tahini on-hand so you can whip this up when you decide to invite people over at the last minute.

  • Serve with carrots, cucumbers and warm pita triangles.

Baked Buffalo Chicken Dip

  • This one requires a medium amount of effort, a trip to the store and some stove/oven time.

  • I opted to shred a rotisserie chicken because I didn’t have time to make it.

  • Serve with celery and round tortilla chips.

Pan Con Tomate

  • Bright, refreshing and sturdy.

  • Comes together very fast.

  • Don’t spoon the tomato puree on the toast too soon — it does absorb and can get soggy. Also, I don’t top with extra tomatoes.

Caviar + Potato Chips

  • My actual favorite and indulgent snack. It’s worth procuring caviar for, or if you happen to have some leftover, this is the only way to eat it. It’s so salty and satisfying.

  • No recipe here, literally just get plain Lays or Ruffles chips, dip them in some creme fraiche and top with caviar. Feel free to add some chives too if you’re feeling fancy.

  • You’re welcome.
